Drum dryer for chalk.

Our company has the ability to design and manufacture, at the request of the customer, a drying drum for drying chalk with a capacity from 1 ton per hour to 20 tons of chalk per hour. If a higher productivity is required, our company is ready to offer modular chalk drying complexes with a capacity of 40 tons per hour to 500 tons of chalk per hour .

Particle size is very important for drying chalk.


The general rule of thumb for drying is that the finer the particle size, the better. When drying chalk to 1-2% moisture, the desired maximum particle size is 0-20 (25) mm. Of course, it is possible to be larger than 20-50 mm or even 20-80 mm, but in this case it is necessary to increase the residence time of the chalk in the dryer, and this leads to a decrease in the productivity of the equipment and, as a consequence, to an increase in the cost of equipment, all other things being equal.


Our dryers  drums for drying chalk can be aggregated with heat generators operating both on gaseous fuel (natural gas, propane-butane mixture), liquid (diesel fuel, fuel oil, various synthetic boiler / furnace fuels, coal-water fuel), solid (wood-burning furnaces, coal furnaces, installations pulverized coal injection).


Heat generators operating on natural gas are the easiest to maintain and technologically advanced. They are fully automated and do not require constant monitoring. The only drawback is the cost of natural gas in Ukraine. The cost of drying is noticeably higher than when working on solid fuels or liquid.


The most significant savings can be achieved using solid fuel heat generators. Among them, the best price / cost ratio * technological effectiveness is possessed by a pulverized coal-fired heat generator.


The most cost-effective is a heat generator operating on briquettes / pellets from sunflower husk or brown coal with a lump size of 25-100mm.



However, they have significant disadvantages.

  1. So, for example, all solid fuel heat generators require a stoker for timely fuel supply and ash removal. And when using a wood-fired heat generator, it is necessary to constantly monitor the moisture content of the incoming firewood, otherwise the necessary  thermal power for the drying process will be impossible. It also requires a permanent large warehouse for firewood and a firewood preparation area (unloading, sawing, sorting). For example, for a heat generator with a capacity of 1-1.5 MW, the required amount of firewood is 25-37 cubic meters. per day, which is equivalent to 1 truck. If whiteness is also important for your chalk, or for some reason it is not permissible for ash particles to enter the chalk, it will be necessary to install a heat exchanger , which will significantly (up to 40%) increase fuel consumption. Thus, it turns out that, depending on the wishes and needs of the customer, the type of heat generator used is not always obvious. Sometimes it is more expedient to install a heat generator that runs on diesel fuel, or on natural gas and not have unnecessary trouble. But if the main thing for you is the money saved, feel free to take a solid fuel heat generator.

  2. Also, in addition to the heat generator, for the operation of the drying drum, a smoke exhauster is needed, which ensures the suction of the necessary air for combustion, its passage through the drying drum, cyclone and the evacuation of moisture evaporated from the chalk. For each capacity in tons per hour, taking into account humidity at the inlet and outlet of the drying drum, rheological properties of chalk, porosity, etc., a smoke exhauster is specially calculated, designed and manufactured with the required parameters.

  3. The third necessary element for the correct management of the chalk drying process is the presence of a dust-precipitating cyclone . Dry chalk is very dusty and therefore requires a dust collection system . The cyclone parameters depend on the performance of the drying drum, the amount of moisture removed from the material, the type of heat generator. Therefore, in each individual case, depending on the configuration, we select the cyclones individually.

When buying equipment from our company  we provide all the necessary documents - a data sheet, an operation manual, installation and aggregation schemes with feeding and unloading material. We also provide any feasible advisory assistance in the preparation of project documentation for coordination with government agencies.
